I met Mike, Justin & Maren at Spooner Lake on a beautiful fall evening just as the colors were reaching the height of their brilliance. We walked along the trail towards the south, well Maren ran, us “adults” walked. Maren and her big blue eyes were a bit tricky to capture as she darted about finding fascinating new things to explore. We found some great colors in the grasses and trees, as well as some fabulous evening light as the sun dropped.
Children are so fun to photograph. The wonder in their eyes and excitement with which they greet the world is seldom matched in adults. It can be so refreshing to spend time with them (especially when I’m not in charge) and to see the joy in their parents faces. Maren embodied all of this, she ran around playing with everything, then collapsing into mom and dad reassuringly for a few seconds before bounding off on another 100 yard high-speed-adventure.
The next day I had an engagement shoot in South Lake Tahoe at Fallen Leaf Lake, and the Paidakoviches were camping at the lake so I left a bit early and made a few portraits of them with their extended family. I didn’t feel those photos fit the motif of this post, so they’ll be showcased on their own.
I had a great time with the lovely Paidakovich family, thank you for having me out for an adventure.
