Here is the second set from Kyle and Heidi’s wedding Saturday at Valhalla on the west shore of Lake Tahoe.
Josh posted the first set here on Tuesday. He spent the early part of the day making photos of the girls’ prep while I was with the guys at a sweet condo in South Lake.
The condo was steps away from the beach and a perfect spot for a little pre-partying and gettin’ ready. The groomsmen were unprecedentedly ready half an hour ahead of schedule, so we had some time to make some cool portraits on the dock in front of the condo.
After we finished up, I made the short trek around Tahoe to Valhalla. The moment I saw this place, I was blown away–it’s an incredible spot to work as a wedding photographer. The stately hall sits a short walk from a classic west-side beach and is surrounded by an old-growth pine forest. There are some classic boat houses out front accompanying a more modern dock area that caters to boaters, swimmers and causal pedestrian tourists.
Samantha and the crew from Save the Date Wedding Coordination had the venue totally dialed in for the day. Everything looked fantastic and the day’s schedule was executed nearly to perfection–quite the task considering the bridal party was 18 deep.
Kyle and Heidi’s brown and turquoise (I’m sure there are more creative names assigned to both colors) theme was ubiquitous, yet not overstated. From the girls’ dresses, to the pillows at the fireplace and the ribbon wrapped around the marshmallow containers, the colors were impeccably planned.
Speaking of the marshmallows, their S’mores bar was one of the coolest things I’ve seen at a wedding party. They had several flavors of marshmallows, Hershey’s Chocolate and graham crackers set up just in front of Valhalla’s grand fireplace. It was an incredible touch that was fun, tasty and emblematic of the Lake Tahoe summer lifestyle. The photographers definitely sampled the goods, just to be sure.
The party wrapped up promptly at 11 p.m., as the couple was whisked off in a limo to the South Lake condo.
It was an awesome wedding in one of the coolest spots we’ve shot. Hopefully we’ll be back early and often.
Thanks for checking in this week. We’re just getting into the bulk of the wedding season so stay tuned for many more wedding posts. I’m also covering Mammoth’s Food and Wine Experience next week, which should be a blast. Look for some posts from that.
