Saturday Brandon and I had the pleasure of making photographs at Jeff & Lindy’s awesome mountain wedding in Mammoth Lakes, California.
I started the day with the ladies at Haute Looks Salon and then we went up to their room at The Westin Monache Resort for a quick boudoir session before Lindy got into her dress.
The ceremony was at the Twin Lakes Forest Chapel, an outdoor chapel in the woods beside a beautiful mountain lake. The thunderstorms came early in the day, cooling the air and intensifying the already dramatic light. They held the reception at Mammoth Mountain’s Parallax station overlooking the superb Sierra Nevada mountains and an amazing sunset.
We had a bit of time before we started making photos of the day so we made sure to plan some locations to incorporate the stellar scenery defining Mammoth Lakes. We were able to set up a remote camera behind the officiant and create some unique perspectives. If you look closely you can spot me and Brandon in a few of the photos.
We also reserved a row boat for just after the ceremony, enabling us to get just the right angle for the party shot. Being the easy going and excited people they are, Jeff and Lindy agreed to take a lap around the lake in the boat just as the sun was disappearing behind Hole-in-the-Wall (where I got in an avalanche a few years back, Brandon can tell you that story–don’t volunteer to go first.)
Brandon’s local knowledge (he grew up in Mammoth and lives there today) enabled us to capture photographs that would have been impossible without his understanding of the dynamic mountain light as well as the geographic nuances that make up a mountain town like Mammoth. After some photography at Twin Lakes we headed to the Bluffs overlooking Mammoth and made a few portraits until the rain began.
Then the party started at The Parallax at McCoy Station. The setting sun, great food, live music and flowing drinks created a festive atmosphere and once again the photo booth anthropomorphized into the life of the party. We’ll have a separate post from that later in the week. So here’s a bit of my take from the day, Brandon will have a post up Thursday with his vision. We’re headed to Santa Barbara this weekend to party with Misa and Ian and create dynamic outdoor photographs on the beautiful California coast.
To Jeff and Lindy, thanks so much for allowing us to be part of your special day, you guys are awesome, we had an amazing time. Thank you.
