Christian and Alexis met at Sierra Meadows Ranch a few years ago when it was Sherwins, a bar and restaurant off the beaten path in Mammoth.
Besides for the fact that it’s a beautiful wedding venue right by Mammoth capable of handling a big group of people, it made perfect sense to get married there.
Our story started when we shot engagement photos with them at June Mountain last winter, and continued at the Westin Monache on Saturday morning as Alexis prepared for the big day.
Rebecca Garrett, who has been shooting with us this summer, joined me for the day and kicked ass from start to finish. I knew she meant business when she came up with several creative ideas for shots of the dress, including on the Devil’s Postpile replica behind the Westin’s front desk.
After getting creative with Alexis and some of her family there, I headed up the street to meet Christian at his house for a few prep shots before heading to Sierra Meadows Ranch for the ceremony and party.
Christian and Alexis created several DIY projects for the day so we were sure to capture as many of their details as possible. They made the alter, the bar (made from old snowboards), and several items in the reception tent and around the venue. Their thought and effort was clear and the guests were impressed.
Their ceremony was one to remember, mainly because their dog Riley, in a dress shirt and tie, delivered the rings as they made it official. They practiced the process with him several times before Saturday, but animals are unpredictable. Right on cue, he meandered down the aisle and delivered the rings like it was scripted.
As I said on Facebook, Alexis had more fun at her wedding than I’ve seen anybody have ever. She was dancing and laughing and smiling the entire evening.
Everything ran like clockwork. The food from CJ’s was tremendous, like it always is, and the DJ kept the party rocking long after Rebecca and I left for the evening.
It was a fantastic wedding that I’m sure many other will draw inspiration from for years to come.
We’ll have shots from Dan and Candice’s wedding at Convict Lake last weekend on the way, and then the summer’s finale at Marion Davies Guest House at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica with Adam and Adrienne. It’s bound to be a great evening at an awesome new venue for us. There is a pilot for a reality TV show about their lives being made and they’ll be filming at the wedding that evening so we should be in for some surprises. It’s also Carmageddon II next weekend. That should add some excitement to the day. Stay tuned.
